TLCD – Brief

Sowing the seeds of Training and Learning
for Community Development
The Combined European Bureau for Community Development, CEBSD (www.cebsd.org) is the lead partner in a European project for dissemination of guidelines for training and learning. CEBSD leads a Consortium for Training and Learning for Community Development that consists of 16 partners who take active part in exchanges and networking. They seek to apply the results of past and current actions in Life Long Learning programmes to community-based training and learning. The partners are responsible for drawing the maximum benefit from the exchange of good practice and identifying the implications for European policy.
The Consortium seeks to exchange and share guidelines in order to:
- Link the core principles of Community Development to training and learning systems that promote civic skills and community participation.
- Set up an interactive network to promote community-based learning (with a focus on 25-64 year olds who have not had third level education) and link networking at the national level to the European level.
- Increase networking from good practice to policy specifically in relationship to the draft European guidelines for training and learning for community development developed in Budapest in 2006 under the European Union Grundtvig Programme.
Partners have completed a series of exchanges where learning was relayed from partner-to-partner and country-to-country. The relay visits led to a Laboratory in an old bus garage in Malmo restored to an experimental community centre designed by local people. Here partners from across Europe analysed the most significant elements from the exchanges so far. Partners are now working on creative methods for networking and dissemination of results. There will be a seminar in Sofia 18th to 21st May 2009 on this theme.
